Eyelash Extensions

 What Are Eyelash Extensions?

Eyelash extensions is an increasingly popular new service that lengthens and thickens your natural eyelashes.  They are single strands of synthetic eyelashes that are curved to replicate a natural lash.  They are applied to each individual natural eyelash one by one for a beautiful and natural look. Eyelash extensions are perfect for special occasions or everyday wear.

What Do Eyelash Extensions Look Like When Applied?

With proper professional application, meaning one synthetic eyelash  applied to one natural lash the look and feel is completely real and natural looking. No one will know you have extensions they will just think you were born with long beautiful lashes.

How Long Will A Full Set Of Eyelash Extensions Last?

When applied properly, eyelash extensions will last the length of your eyelashes natural growth cycle. Everyone’s individual experience will differ based on day to day activities but overall touchups should only be required every 2-4 weeks. A special waterproof bonding agent is used to protect and extend the life of the lashes.

How Often Should I Get Touch Ups?

Your natural eyelashes fall off every 60-120 days due to the natural growth cycle and are naturally replaced with the growth of a new eyelash. Other factors such as rubbing your eyes or exposure to steam may cause the extensions to fall out sooner. A touch up is needed to fill in any lashes that have fallen out and to fill in on the new growth. Touch ups will on each individual and depend on your natural eyelash cycle and how well you take care of your extended lashes. Most touch ups are between 2-4 weeks. When you come in for a regular touch up you should have at least 50% of your lash extensions still attached. If you wait too long, many of your extensions may fall off and you will need to have the full set re-applied.

Can I Apply Mascara To Eyelash Extensions?

Yes, although mascara is not really required since the extensions give the illusion of wearing mascara. It must however only be water based mascara. DO NOT USE OIL-BASED OR WATER-PROOF MASCARA. Waterproof mascara or any type of oil based mascara can dissolve the bonding agent and shorten the life of your eyelash extensions causing them to fall sooner. Care also needs to be taken in washing off the mascara. Only use a water based eye makeup remover.

Can I Swim, Shower, Exercise or Visit a Spa While Wearing Eyelash Extensions?

Yes. The bonding agent we use is waterproof and allows you to shower, swim, exercise, etc. special care is required but overall maintenance is low. However, do not wash your eye area for the first 24 hours after each application.

Can I Use Eyelash Curlers With Eyelash Extensions?

It is not recommended to use a mechanical curler on your eyelash extensions as these curlers will damage the extensions and possibly break your own natural lashes. The extensions have a natural curl but if more of a curl is required we recommend using a heated eyelash curler.

How Do I Take Care of My New Eyelash Extensions?

-Do not get the lashes wet for the first 24 hours

-Avoid hot steam or sauna for 48 hours -Avoid running water directly on your lashes

-Do not rub your eyes or pull on your lashes

-Only use water based mascara (optional)

-If applying mascara do to from middle of lash to tip, avoid the root area

-Use water based eye makeup remover -Do not perm your lashes

-Do not use a mechanical eyelash curler

Is The Product FDA Approved And Is It Safe?

The FDA is not currently regulating eyelash extensions since they are applied to the natural eyelashes and do not touch the skin. The application process is pain-free and relaxing. Most clients fall asleep during the procedure. Always be sure you are using a certified eyelash extension specialist.

How Long Will It Take To Apply Eyelash Extensions And How Is It Done?

The initial application process normally takes up to 2 hours. You will lay comfortably on a massage/facial table with your eyes closed. The eyelash professional will then apply tape or an under eye gel pad to cover your lower lashes. The extensions will be then be applied to each individual eyelash on a lash by lash basis.

You can even add fun colors like red, blue, purple etc. You will be able to consult with your eyelash extension specialist to see what type of style you are interested in. we also determine what your lashes can hold in regards to size and length. Each individual’s lashes will vary in strength and length which is taken into consideration when creating a look for you.

LVL Lash Lift & Tint

LVL is a groundbreaking technique designed to give clients longer looking lashes without the need for lash extensions. The treatment involves lifting, rather than curling the lash. Typically the treatment also incorporates a tint. Together with the lift it creates the illusion of longer, thicker lashes.

How does it work?

LVL products are used to straighten and lift the natural lashes. This has the effect of making the lashes look longer and more visible. Tint can also be incorporated into LVL treatments to further enhance the appearance of the natural lashes. No lash extensions are applied as part of the treatment.

What Does LVL Stand For?

LVL stands for Length, Volume and LIft.

Where Was LVL Developed?

LVL was developed exclusively by the Nouveau Lashes in-house design team. They recognized that there was a huge demand for natural lash enhancements, particularly for people who didn't want lash extensions.

Does it hurt?

No. In fact, clients often find LVL treatments extremely relaxing. They can relax and close their eyes during the treatment.

How long does an LVL treatment take?

The treatment takes approximately 45 minutes depending on the length and health of the lashes.

How long do LVL treatments last?

LVL applications can be expected to last approximately 6 weeks. If a tint has been used as part of the application, this may require a touch up after 4 weeks.

Is any maintenance involved?

No. Unless re-tinting after 4 weeks.

Is LVL suitable for everyone?

Although LVL is great for many people, it's not suitable for everyone. Those unlikely to be suitable are likely to fall into one of the following categories:

-People who've a medical contraindication to the treatment

-People with brittle, fine or no natural eyelashes

-Someone who's experienced an allergic reaction to a sensitivity patch

I have downward-pointing lashes. Can I have LVL?

Yes. LVL can provide lift to downward-pointing lashes.

Is LVL suitable for men?

Yes. LVL is an excellent treatment for men's lashes, which are often downward-pointing. Because LVL does not curl the lashes, it will straighten and lift the lashes opening the eye, without looking feminine.

Can I have lash extensions added to LVL?

Yes. Lash extensions can be added to LVL lashes. In fact, LVL treatments are particularly good for people who want lash extensions, but have downward-pointing lashes. Lash extensions can cause downward-pointing lashes to lower even further. With LVL they can get the essential lift they need before the extensions are added. Clients must wait 24 hours after their LVL treatment before adding lash extensions.

What are the aftercare instructions?

*For an LVL treatment:

-Do not wet lashes for the first 24 hours

-Avoid steam, saunas and swimming for the first 48 hours

-Avoid touching, rubbing or introducing foreign bodies or contaminants into the treatment area

-Ensure lashes are not disturbed or manipulated into different positions (ex. when sleeping, cleansing the face, applying moisturizer or cosmetics)

-Avoid strong sunlight or UV light (if tinted)

*For Lash Tinting:

Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is the controlled scraping of the skin using a sterile, surgical blade held at a 45 degree angle for the removal of keratinized cells on the outer stratum corneum and fine vellous hair (peach fuzz).

It is great for prepping the skin prior to peels, enzyme treatments and to increase penetration of active ingredients in the treatment room and home care products. It creates the perfect canvas for makeup application and is the go-to treatment to prepare for high profile occasions.

Who can perform dermaplaning?

A licensed esthetician, RN, cosmetologist or barber who has been professionally trained can perform the treatment.

What is the technique?

This technique is safely performed using a blade specifically designed for dermaplaning. Once the skin is properly prepped, the technician holds the skin taut and gently glides the blade along the skin's surface at a 45 degree angle.

Is it safe?

It is extremely safe when performed by a  professionally trained professional utilizing proper methods and tools.

Once the vellous hair (peach fuzz) is removed will it grow back thicker?

No this is physiologically impossible. The soft, fine vellous hair will grow back slowly - usually about 4 weeks.

There are 2 types of hair that grow on our bodies:

1. Vellous hair is the thin, fine, soft hair that typically covers the entire body.

2. Terminal hair is the course hair that grows on the head, face in men, underarms, legs and pubic areas.

Dermaplaning, waxing, tweezing, sugaring, threading or any other depilatory form of hair removal cannot alter the type of hair grown in any given area.

Can dermaplaning cause the skin to bleed?

Not if done properly. If done improperly, excessive scraping, nicks and cuts can occur which can cause bleeding.

What areas can be treated?

Dermaplaning is performed on the face and sides of the neck. It is not performed on eyelids, throat or chest.

How often can this procedure be performed?

Dermaplaning can be performed every 3 to 4 weeks. Treating the skin in this manner actually removes about 2 to 3 weeks worth of dead skin cells. The technician should allow the skin to complete its normal skin cycle of approximately 28 days before repeating the treatment.

Can dermaplaning be performed with a chemical peel?

Yes. Dermaplaning is an excellent way to prepare the skin for a chemical peel.

Does the skin actually peel from dermaplaning?

No. When dermaplaning is performed as a preparation for a chemical peel, the visible exfoliation that the client sees will be a result of the peel solution used in the treatment.

Who can be treated?

All skin types can benefit from dermaplaning. Typically clients over 35 are the best candidates.

Can I dermaplane the day of a big event?

It is recommended to dermaplane several days before a big event - especially brides.

Who cannot be treated?

-Clients with active acne outbreaks should not be treated until healed. Dermaplaning is great for diminishing acne scars but should not be performed during active breakouts.

-Clients with bleeding disorders or difficulty clotting should not be treated.

-Clients with diabetes, not under control by diet or medication, should not be treated.

-Clients undergoing cancer treatments should not be treated.

-Clients with active cold sores will need to reschedule and if prone to cold sores should begin to pre-medicate 24 hours prior to receiving a service.

-Clients with darker skin tones need 2-3 weeks pre-treatment with melanin supressing home care products and sunscreen.

Contraindications:

-Botox or fillers - wait 1 week (Dermaplaning can be done prior to receiving botox &/or fillers.

-Retin A - wait 5 days (First treatment is very important. Subsequent treatments may adjust to fewer days.)

-Chemical peel or laser treatment - wait 14 days depending on strength of peel or laser.

-Accutane or Isotretinoin - after 12 months of non-use and with doctors approval.

-Higher doses or frequency of use of Aspirin (may cause bleeding problem)

-Sunburned or windburned skin

-Clients experiencing high anxiety.
